A few of my favorite covers from this past year…

weeeeeezer

Weezer and Wavves teamed up earlier this year for a limited-edition split 7″ that features an unreleased Weezer track and Wavves’ take on “You Gave Your Love To Me Softly.” This song was originally released back in the 90s for the Angus soundtrack (great soundtrack btw and a super underrated movie) and is actually my favorite Weezer song. This Wavves version is super fun and really well done.

Ryan Adam’s 1989 cover album got all the press, but Screaming Females rendition of Swift’s infectious “Shake It Off” deserves it. Frontwoman Marissa Paternoster’s vocals are one-of-a-kind and she fucking shreds at the 2:54 mark. You’ll either love this or hate it. I for one can’t get enough.

Now the band has covered one of their friend and touring partner’s songs with a gorgeous rendition of ‘Heavenly Father,’ a track Vernon originally recorded for Zach Braff’s 2014 film Wish I Was Here.
