Never thought I would feature a Vanessa Carlton track on a year end list. Don’t get me wrong, she’s a talented musician, but her music has never struck a chord with me. That is until now. I guess tying the knot with Deer Tick’s John McCauley is rubbing off because i’m digging her new indie/folk sound.
♩ Vanessa Carlton – Young Heart [single]
“…’California Owls,’ pairs reverb-soaked vocals with a harpsichord-like synth that sounds like sunlight filtered through water. But over its final two minutes, the retro pop song is overtaken by ambient experimentation.” (via All Songs Considered)
♩Death and Vanilla – California Owls [from To Where The Wild Things Are]

This reminds me of high school in the best possible way. I wish it was Summer 1999 all over again.
♩ Worriers – Most Space [from Imaginary Life]
