(31) Days of Good//12.8.15

cover-6001-600x600

One of my son’s favorite jams. You put this song on in my house and you better be ready to get down. I dare you not to dance to this song. (p.s. I need to learn Kim’s moves before the next wedding season arrives)

Urgh, damn these talented teenagers, for they inspire in us rather confusing feelings of envy and adoration. It’s mainly the latter for 19 year-old Aussie Kaity Dunstan, who under the guise of Cloves gives us another jolt of her talent.”  (via pressplay)

“These days, Frank Turner is a positive person. Each song he writes is a charismatic singalong, and ‘Get Better’ from Positive Songs For Negative People is perhaps his most anthemic of them all. Urgent and exciting, it’s sure to make even the most negative person crack a smile.” (via All Songs Considered)

“For the past decade, Los Angeles-based film composer Dean Hurley has been David Lynch’s right-hand-man for all things sound-related. He did the music supervision and sound mixing for Inland Empire as well as producing and co-writing some of the auteur’s own studio albums, like 2011’s Crazy Clown Time, 2013’s The Big Dream, and 2014’s the Air Is On Fire. To tide you over for Twin Peaks‘s long-awaited return to network television this year, we recommend checking out his very romantic, sample-delic new solo album, Days of Thunder & Rain, which was constructed almost entirely from old soul samples, and takes its name from Hans Zimmer’s synthy score for ’90s Nascar thriller Days of Thunder. He’s released it for free download, along with the above short film, directed by Nicholas Wurz and William Renton, commissioned by Virginia-based film studio Mondial, and co-starring a bunch of creepy mannequins.” (via Emilie Friedlander, The Fader)

“When Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon saw Norway’s Highasakite perform at the 2012 Oya Festival in Oslo, he fell in love. Soon the two bands were touring together. Now the only band I know that tours with a flugabone has taken one of Vernon’s songs and made it even more majestic than the original.” (via All Songs Considered)

Never thought I would feature a Vanessa Carlton track on a year end list. Don’t get me wrong, she’s a talented musician, but her music has never struck a chord with me. That is until now. I guess tying the knot with Deer Tick’s John McCauley is rubbing off because i’m digging her new indie/folk sound.

“…’California Owls,’ pairs reverb-soaked vocals with a harpsichord-like synth that sounds like sunlight filtered through water. But over its final two minutes, the retro pop song is overtaken by ambient experimentation.” (via All Songs Considered)
