A few of my favorite new releases this week, including the latest from Rose Windows, Smith Westerns, and some previously unreleased material from Big Star. As always, be sure to visit Largehearted Boy for more new music.

These are simply in alphabetical order. It’s hard enough to rank my top 10, i don’t want to do it more than once a year. Enjoy all of these on Spotify, which i’ll continue to update throughout the rest of 2013. And with some highly anticipated releases still on the horizon, including new albums from Porcelain Raft, Smith Westerns, and Elton John, i’m sure this list will evolve.
But enough babbling, enjoy my favorite albums of 2013 (so far) and please check back in December to see which (if any) make the cut for my top 10 of the year.
Smith Westerns will release Soft Will, the follow-up to their 2011 record Dye It Blonde, on June 25th (via Mom + Pop). The band recently shared the video for the album’s first single, “Varsity”, directed by Alan Del Rio Ortiz.
Porcelain Raft is the brain child of Italian born Mauro Remiddi. Over the last couple of years, Remiddi teased us with some impressive EPs and singles, and toured with the like of The Antlers and Youth Lagoon. Now as he gears up for the release of his debut LP Strange Weekend (out tomorrow, 1/24, via Secretly Canadian!), he’s touring Europe, including a couple runs with M83 and Smith Westerns (dates).
I’m not exactly sure how Remiddi has managed to craft such a dreamy and visceral sound, but i’m sure it has something to do with his 27 years of travels across Europe, from his native Italy to London; of caravaning with the Berlin Youth Circus playing traditional gypsy Klezmer music; or maybe reinterpreting traditional music in North Korea; and maybe even his stint playing piano for an Off Broadway tap dance show. Whatever it is, I don’t really care, it works.
The 2011 edition of (31) Days of Good is officially upon us! 2011 was yet another good year for music lovers and i’ve got a lot of fantastic songs to cover in a mere 31 days. I’m gonna kick things off this year with healthy handful of tracks that were released in the early months of 2011. With all the good tunes released this year, I easily could’ve forgotten about some of the earlier releases. But not these tracks, they are way too good to forget. So without further ado, I hope you enjoy Day 1 and be sure to tune in daily for more good.
