I was a HUGE Weezer fan in high school and college. Blue Album is a near perfect album and I even enjoyed Maladroit. But off the top of my head, I can’t name a single track and/or album title after Maladroit was released in 2002. After reading Robin Hilton’s favorite albums of 2014, I though it fair to give an old favorite a second chance. After first listen, I’m hopeful. I hear “old” Weezer clawing back for a place in my listening rotation. Is is this the Blue Album part 2? Definitely not. But it’s not fair for me to expect that. If I must compare to an older album, it’s closer to Green Album part 2 (which isn’t too shocking, both were produced by Ric Ocasek, along with the almighty Blue Album). While this album hasn’t resonated with me quite like it did with Mr. Hilton, I was pleasantly surprised with how much of it I did enjoy, especially “Lonely Girl”, “Eulogy For A Rock Band”, and “Go Away”, which features Best Coast’s Bethany Cosentino and Bobb Bruno. (p.s. the album cover art is super cool, one of my favorites this year)

♩ Protomartyr – Scum, Rise! [from Under Color of Official Right]
♩ La Sera – Losing to the Dark [from Hour of the Dawn]
Say what you want about Lana Del Rey, but this cover of the Disney classic is fantastic (and pretty much the only good thing about this film).
