About 6 months ago, I packed up the last 12 years of my life and left Southern California behind. But as much as I love calling Chico my home again, I truly miss the smorgasbord of live music that takes place on a daily basis down south. But this Friday (2/28) one of my favorite bands, Trails and Ways, are making the trek up from Oakland for a show at Chico State. They’ll be joined by San Luis Obispo’s Fialta, an indie pop quartet with a super fun and infectious sound.
I haven’t been this excited for a show in quite some time. Show details and ticket information can be found on the show’s facebook page. The campus radio station, KCSC, is also giving away pairs of tickets all week.

The young Los Angeles quintet Y LUV has been invited to perform the March residency at The Central S.A.P.C. in Santa Monica. The band has already secured an outstanding lineup for each Tuesday of the month, featuring fantastic Southern California bands bands like The Colourist, Capital Cities, and Tic Tic Boom!
Like their lineup of bands for the residency, Y LUV is an eclectic mix of genres, incorporating psychedelic rock, spine-chilling harmonies, explosive beats and aggressive guitar riffs. They draw comparisons to bands from Bloc Party to The Killers and White Arrows, blending in winding guitars one minute and heavy bass the next.
Y LUV’s sophomore EP, How Chill Can You Let Go, was followed by two stand-out singles premiered by BlahBlahBlahScience.com (“Earthquakes,” November 10th) and Earmilk.com (“Keep It Rollin,”November 29th). How Chill received praise from a variety of Los Angeles tastemakers like The Deli Magazine, Buzzbands.la and Beat Crave. The Deli LA wrote of the band, “Being fans of local favs Foster the People and Superhumaniods gives an inkling of their tastes, but Y LUV kicks out more rootsy grooves that hook you front to back.”
This residency sets the tone for Y LUV’s Spring 2012. They will spend much it playing shows and touring, finally leading up to the release of their third LP later this year.
