Fantastic news today for Animal Collective fans, but in case you missed it, the group announced the release of a brand new 7″ — Honeycomb/Gotham. The 7″ will feature two brand new songs, which will be available digitally (Monday, 5/7) and physically (pre-order now, available 6/27). Best of all though, you can stream the new tracks now on AC’s homepage, which makes the wait for the next AC full-length a tad bit easier.
Miami’s avant-dance duo Afrobeta have been tearing up dance floors for years, and they have made a splash yet again with the release of their latest mix tape,Wig Party. Cuci Amador and Tony “Smurphio” Laurencio formed Afrobeta in 2006 as a way to share their mutual love of songwriting and dancing till 5 a.m.
Wig Party is available to download for free on Afrobeta’s Facebook, as a “thank you” to their much-loved fans. The release features several new singles, remixes of previously released songs, mashups and a new take on Devo’s classic “Whip It!”
Afrobeta’s unique songs transcend genre classifications—Cuci’s rapid-fire delivery, combined with Smurphio’s funky synths and head-bopping bass lines are sure to keep audiences moving for all ten tracks. The duo explains, “Participating in the Identity Festival tour this past summer really influenced the making of Wig Party. We wrote the songs ‘Virtual Life’ and ‘Anthem’ while on the road. We were very fortunate to have DiscoTech remix our song ‘Love is Magic’ and we would also like to thank the Nervo twins for their informal birthday greeting intro on ‘Birthday Situation.'”
Wig Party marks Afrobeta’s first release since their 2011 LP Under the Streets. The band was ready for a change of pace after a busy tour schedule over the past couple of years, playing Glastonbury Festival, Burning Man, New York Fall Fashion Week, Ultra Brazil, Space Ibiza, Camp Bisco and Identity Festival. I’m a little late on this, so unless you’ve been living under a rock all day, you’ve already heard the great news. But just in case you’re still in the dark, i’m oh so happy to tell you that Sigur Rós is set to release Valtari, their first LP since 2008!
Though the band’s stunning concert film Inni and Jonsi’s incredible work on last year’s We Built a Zoo definitely helped tide me over until this point, the last 4 years have felt like 40. Words simply cannot describe how excited I am for this release, but 2012 just got real.
While we all wait for May 28th to arrive, stream the first new track “Ekki Múkk” below. Be sure to cheek out the video while you’re at it, which just happens to be directed by Jonsi’s sister, Inga Birgisdóttir.

The young Los Angeles quintet Y LUV has been invited to perform the March residency at The Central S.A.P.C. in Santa Monica. The band has already secured an outstanding lineup for each Tuesday of the month, featuring fantastic Southern California bands bands like The Colourist, Capital Cities, and Tic Tic Boom!
Like their lineup of bands for the residency, Y LUV is an eclectic mix of genres, incorporating psychedelic rock, spine-chilling harmonies, explosive beats and aggressive guitar riffs. They draw comparisons to bands from Bloc Party to The Killers and White Arrows, blending in winding guitars one minute and heavy bass the next.
Y LUV’s sophomore EP, How Chill Can You Let Go, was followed by two stand-out singles premiered by BlahBlahBlahScience.com (“Earthquakes,” November 10th) and Earmilk.com (“Keep It Rollin,” November 29th). How Chill received praise from a variety of Los Angeles tastemakers like The Deli Magazine, Buzzbands.la and Beat Crave. The Deli LA wrote of the band, “Being fans of local favs Foster the People and Superhumaniods gives an inkling of their tastes, but Y LUV kicks out more rootsy grooves that hook you front to back.”
This residency sets the tone for Y LUV’s Spring 2012. They will spend much it playing shows and touring, finally leading up to the release of their third LP later this year.

Forget everything you know about Scout.
With All Those Relays, the band’s first album since 2003, Ashen Keilyn has deconstructed her band and put it back together piece-by-piece — new players, new producers and, most importantly, the best songs of Keilyn’s career. Scout’s new chapter finds Keilyn simultaneously at her most emotionally raw and her toughest yet, creating an album both empowering and vulnerable — and catchy as hell.
One song, “Under Attack,” began as a sparse demo. In the studio, the band laid down 128 different tracks, including three drum sets, three basses and layers of vocals. The result? One of All Those Relays’ most powerful songs, four and a half minutes of propulsive percussion, haunting piano and Keilyn’s catchiest chorus yet.
Last fall the EP Pi introduced two songs from All Those Relays, along with a cover of Guided By Voices’ “Game of Pricks” and one unreleased track, “Songs to Strangers.”
With an EP released and a new record completed ready to go, what happens now?
“I’m allowing thing to happen at their own pace,” says Keilyn.
But on the strength of All Those Relays, that pace is going to be quick..
