The record is set to be released June 7th, via Dovecote Records, and they’ll be touring with Architecture in Helsinki for most of June (heads up LA, they’ll be at the Henry Fonda Theater on June 1st. Complete tour dates and more can be here).
I haven’t had a chance to listen to in it’s entirety, but i’ve only heard good things about it and i’ve really liked what i’ve heard thus far. In the meantime, enjoy the video for the title track, as well as a brand new Hard Mix remix of the track (download it below).
The Wave Pictures is David Tattersall (vocals and guitar), Franic Rozycki (bass guitar) and Jonny Helm (drums) and they’ve been hard at work since 1998. I was just introduced to this British indie trio earlier this week and it’s yet another reminder that there are a plethora of good musicians out there waiting for new listeners. If I had to compare them to one band, The Drums always seems to come to mind.
The trio just released a new video for their latest single, Little Surprise (available now via Moshi Moshi. The full album, Beer in the Breakers, is set to be released May 2nd). The track is fantastic and full of the eclectic humor and folksy charm that has come to define the band and the video is a perfect interpretation of the song. It’s shot in beautiful Paloma Spain and in a rather upbeat form of melancholy tells the story of a young couple confronting depression and thoughts of suicide.
Vocalist Dave Tattersall sheds some light on the lyrical content – “I wrote these lyrics in a bar in Munich, hungover, first thing in the morning. The lyrics describe a scene involving two people who work there having some kind of squabble. It’s terribly mysterious. One of them has “a little surprise up his sleeve”, but we never find out what it is”.

The Virtual Choir began in May 2009 as a simple experiment in social media, when Britlin Losee – a fan of Eric’s music – recorded a video of herself singing “Sleep” and shared it on YouTube.
After watching the video, Eric responded by sending a call out to his online fans to purchase Polyphony’s recording of “Sleep”, record themselves singing along to it, and upload the result.
Scott Haines generously volunteered to cut the video together. Eric was so impressed by the result that he decided to push the concept to the next level by recording himself conducting “Lux Aurumque”, and asked Virtual Choir members to sing along to that. Once again, Scott edited the audio and video and produced the beautiful result shown below:
Virtual Choir 1.0 received over 1 million hits in the first two months of its release.
Ever ambitious, for this latest Virtual Choir project Eric called for 900 singers to record themselves singing “Sleep”. At the final tally he received 2052 contributions from singers in 58 countries.
The PS22 Chorus is an elementary school chorus from Public School 22 in Graniteville, Staten Island, NY. The chorus is composed of 60-70 fifth-graders, and is directed by Gregg Breinberg. PS22 is amazing.
Freelance Whales are an indie rock band from Queens, NY, that utilize quite the assortment of instruments (banjo, harmonium, glockenspiel, synthesizer…to name a few) and one of my favorite new bands from the last couple of years.
The two of them recently teamed up for a fantastic rendition of my two favorite Freelance Whales tracks, Generator ^ First Floor and Generator ^ Second Floor.
