this years coachella valley music and arts festival is shaping up to be one heck of a 3-day weekend. while none of this has been confirmed on the official coachella website, consequence of sound has numerous confirmed and rumored artists set to appear. some of the confirmed include hot chip, passion pit, the raveonettes, phoenix, devo, and the xx and some of the rumored include gorillaz, the avett brothers, elvis costello, mew, and tegan & sara. i’m crossing my fingers for mew and gorillaz.

the knife is set to release their newest studio album, “tomorrow, in a year” on march 9th (a digital download will be available feb 2nd). this follow up to 2006’s “silent shout” is a collaboration with mt. sims and plannintorock and is an opera for the danish theater company hotel pro forma that tells the story of darwin’s “on the origin of species”. check out one of the tracks from the upcoming release below.

the antlers are gearing up for a short north american tour beginning at the end of january with ra ra riot and the editors. the antlers brought us one of the best albums of 2009 and are blowing up right now, so do yourself a favor and check them out when they are in your area.

some of my favorite artists could be the proud owners of a new naked golden statue come march. two of karen o’s wild things songs, “all is love” & “hideaway” (don’t get me wrong, but c’mon people… i can’t be the the only one that loves “worried shoes”?), are still in contention, along with tracks from jack white, (“fly farm blues” from it might get loud) and lykke li (“possibility” from twilight: new moon). hopefully the academy turn’s their hearing aids up so they can make some good nominations.

hot chip’s next album, one life stand, is due to be released on feb. 8, 2010. here is another track from the new album and since it’s almost christmas, i’ve included a joy division cover as a bonus.
