weekend recommendations #6

I know I just wrote about Sleigh Bells earlier this week in the DSCRVY #7, but this song is too good to not recommend for your weekend festivities.

This next artist was just recently brought to my attention. Brett Gleason is Brooklyn based artist whose first solo effort, The Dissonance, is a unique fusion of alt-rock and electronica, combining the piano based approach of a singer/songwriter with dark electronica. Think White Lies, but a little darker, a little more electronic, and heavier on the piano (which I always enjoy).

This last track is a brand new one from Crystal Castle’s sophomore release. I love this track. It’s definitely my favorite off the new album. Enjoy!

DSCVRY #7

One of 2009’s breakout bands, Sleigh Bells is a lo-fi, noise pop, duo based in brooklyn, composed of Alexis Krauss (vocals) and Derek E. Miller (songwriter, guitarist, producer). The due recently signed to M.I.A.’s record label N.E.E.T. and will release their debut album, Treats, next month.

After a huge showing at this years Coachella, the duo is set to play the upcoming Pitchfork Music Festival and finishing up a NA trek with Yeasayer. Let’s just say Sleigh Bells is poised to have a huge 2010.

FOR NO ONE

FOR NO ONE is an intimate glimpse of bands playing to a room without a crowd. For this interesting new series, a new favorite of mine, The Big Pink, bring us Crystal Visions.
