[on the road] MGMT
MGMT are hitting the road for their first live shows of 2013 beginning today (4/26) in State College, PA, and ending May 18th in Palo Alto, CA (along with a couple festival stops in June and July). All the tour details, including dates and tickets, are available here. The duo is expected to release their third studio album this June. In the meantime, stream the new track “Alien Days” below.

Kid Cudi released a brand new track yesterday, “Immortal”, from his upcoming LP INDICUD. Apparently, MGMT inspired this new track, and Cudi told us just how on twitter — “Ok, so heres what I did. I took one of my favorite bands MGMT’s song “Congratulations”, put it in reverse, sped it up, and produced over it.” I for one like this new track and can’t wait for INDICUD to drop, which is due out sometime this year.

With 2012 officially a thing of the past, it’s time to look ahead and take a look at what 2013 has in store for us. There’re a handful of new releases i’m really looking forward to, including confirmed releases from Blue Hawaii, Christopher Owens, Ex Cops, The Knife, Phosphorescent, Rhye, Summer Aviation, and Youth Lagoon.
Along with the confirmed releases, there are quite a few expected and rumored new releases that have music fans anxiously awaiting release dates. Some of the expected releases i’m most excited about in the coming year include AlunaGeorge, Desert Stars, Earl Sweatshirt, HAERTS, James Blake, MGMT, Phantogram, Phoenix, Vampire Weekend, and Yeah Yeah Yeahs. And lastly, the rumored releases i’m most hopeful for include Andre 3000, Arcade Fire, Cults, My Bloody Valentine (probably my most anticipated release), MGMT, and Sleigh Bells.

The Antlers ‘Burst Apart’ Today!
The latest from Brooklyn indie rockers, The Antlers, is out today!
Burst Apart is the follow up to one of my absolute favorites of 2009, Hospice, and I’ll be the first to admit that I wasn’t expecting as much from this record.
Don’t get me wrong, I wasn’t expecting to be disappointed, but like MGMT before them, The Antlers were faced with the difficult task of following up a critically acclaimed and popular album. So let’s just say, even though I’ve been (impatiently) anticipating the release of Burst Apart for quite awhile now, I set my expectations a bit lower than I should’ve. Needless to say, there was no need for me to worry.
I’ve listened to Burst Apart (in it’s entirety) about seven times now and I love it. Do I love it more than Hospice? Probably not, but it’s close. Burst Apart lacks some of the raw emotions and realism that make Hospice such an incredible record, but the band’s “trademark atmospheric tension” remains and Peter Silberman’s “feathery voice is still defiantly pure, floating high above the crystalline sounds of his backing band”. My favorite track right now is No Widows, but other stand out tracks include I Don’t Want Love, French Exit, Hounds, and Putting the Dog to Sleep.
