Seraph, the debut full-length from experimental singer-songwriter Mas Ysa (aka Thomas Arsenault), is out next month (7/24) on Downtown Records.

(31) Days of Good//12.14.14
Over a shuffling drum beat, the track builds to a climax of buzzing guitars and a large, wordless vocal melody. (via Miles Bowe, Stereogum).

“…delicate ‘Small Window’ heavy in gentle guitar strumming and angelic vocals. (Zoë) Randle says the song ‘was drawn from the sometimes enchanting space between dreaming and waking’ and we couldn’t think of a more appropriate description.” (via My Old Kentucky Blog)
♩ Luluc – Small Windows [from Passerby]
“There are tracks that can be compartmentalized. They fit within a genre, tucked neatly within a tab at the record store. This Hundred Waters‘ melancholic, angelic song sprawls itself openly, abstractly – with patience and grace. It is soul and ghost pop and R&B and all the nuances you want it to be, with each listen.” (via Abby Yemm, Turntable Kitchen)
♩ Hundred Waters – Murmurs [from The Moon Rang Like a Bell]
“Paradise Girls” is bright and upbeat, defined by fluttery percussion and syncopated guitar lines. The song was inspired by the band’s long roster of female heroes, including ‘Joan Jet, Janet Jackson, [and] Kim Gordon.’ (via All Songs Considered)

[recap] The xx – The Greek Theatre – 6/1/13
The xx – Live at The Greek Theatre in Berkeley – June 1st, 2013
This was their biggest US show to date, and they exceded even my highest expectations. If you have the chance, you must see them live. Absolutely incredible.
Show openers Exile, Choosey, and Hundred Waters were fantastic as well.
My good friend, and frequent collaborator, Brendan Fay (aka 35mmBeats) was able to snap some awesome photos from the show. Check out a few of my favorite shots below. I was also able to got some decent video from the show, I hope to post it sooner than later. And last, but not least, stream the show’s setlist on Spotify.

(31) Days of Good: 12.4.12
Somewhat of an eclectic mix today. Pretty much just shuffled through my favorites and these popped up. I don’t think you’ll mind one bit.
Buke & Gase (formally Buke & Gass) is an up-and-coming Brooklyn-based duo with a really cool, original sound. They released their 2nd EP, Function Falls, this year on Brassland and plan to release their debut full-length, General Dome, this coming January. Keep an eye on these two, I anticipate a big 2013.

Hundred Waters is a 5-piece art-rock band from Gainesville, FL, and first indie act to sign with Skrillex’s record label — OWSLA. This year saw the release of band’s first EP, Thistle (Remixes), and debut full-length, Hundred Waters. I owe CMJ 2012 for this discovery (along with many others).

I didn’t know anything about UK singer-songwriter Jessie Ware until she randomly popped up one of my spotify radio stations. I haven’t giver her debut LP Devotion a proper listen, but I love “Wildest Moments”. Be sure to check out the Star Slinger remix (via soundcloud) after you finish up here.

Tilly And The Wall is one of my favorite indie-pop bands. This year, the 5-piece from Nebraska, released their fourth full-length, Heavy Mood. This was one of my most anticipated releases of 2012 and it totally lived up to my expectations. And the album title is perfect. This album is heavy and a lot of fun. Check out the title track below and you’ll hear what i’m talking about.
