CMJ Music Marathon is set to take over New York City this year, from Oct. 16 – 20. This is one of my bucket list festivals and though i’ve never been, I highly recommend it. CMJ may lack the “big names” you find at Coachella and Lollapalooza, but totally makes up for it with shear volume. There are soooo many bands and artists playing, it’s actually a bit nerve wrecking, trying to decide which acts to see. But what really makes CMJ rad, is the music discovery aspect. This is where you’ll see the next “big name” and it will be in a random Manhattan basement with 10 other lucky people.
With that said, the initial music lineup was recently announced and it includes some of my favorites, including Exitmusic, Generationals, Geographer, GZA, The Luyas, MNDR, The Mountain Goats, Talib Kweli, and The Walkmen.
