[anticipation] Cults//Static

Later this Fall, Cults are set to release the highly anticipated follow-up to their 2011 self-titled, debut release (my favorite album of 2011, i might add).  Written and recorded over the course of 2012 in the band’s home base of New York City,  Static is produced by Cults with support from Shane Stoneback (Sleigh Bells, Vampire Weekend) and Ben Allen (Animal Collective, Washed Out).   Today the band shares a self-directed album teaser which features new tracks “We’ve Got It” and “So Far”.  Static will be released October 15.

J. Cole is one of my favorite hip hop artists these days, but it’s Amber Coffman’s vocals and the sampling of Cults‘ “Bad Things” that makes this track so good.  J. Cole’s latest, Born Sinner, is due out June 18th.  You can stream the new album now over at BornSinner.

With 2012 officially a thing of the past, it’s time to look ahead and take a look at what 2013 has in store for us.  There’re a handful of new releases i’m really looking forward to, including confirmed releases from Blue Hawaii, Christopher Owens, Ex Cops, The Knife, Phosphorescent, Rhye, Summer Aviation, and Youth Lagoon.

Along with the confirmed releases, there are quite a few expected and rumored new releases that have music fans anxiously awaiting release dates.  Some of the expected releases i’m most excited about in the coming year include AlunaGeorge, Desert Stars, Earl Sweatshirt, HAERTS, James Blake, MGMT, Phantogram, Phoenix, Vampire Weekend, and Yeah Yeah Yeahs.  And lastly, the rumored releases i’m most hopeful for include Andre 3000, Arcade Fire, Cults, My Bloody Valentine (probably my most anticipated release), MGMT, and Sleigh Bells.

Make Music Pasadena 2012

This coming June, Downtown Pasadena will once again play host to one of my favorite music festivals — Make Music Pasadena.

Like previous years, the event is FREE  and will feature quite the impressive, and eclectic, lineup.  This year’s event is set for Saturday, June 16th, from 11am to 11pm.  The complete lineup has yet to be announced, but so far includes: Grimes, Dengue Fever, SoKo, Milo Greene, Electric Guest, Ozma, So Many Wizards, and Cults!!!

If you’re in the area and you’re a music fan (and enjoy some good people watching), you really have no excuse not to go.  I’ve gone that last two years and it just keeps getting better (check out my recap of last year).  Stay tuned for more Make Music news as it gets closer.
