I heard one these tracks on my way to work this morning and was instantly intrigued.

I’m a big fan of both Dntel (aka Jimmy Tamborello) and Enya (no joke, Only Time is the best way to cure a hangover), so obviously I searched the good ol’ blogosphere for more of this the first chance I got.  I was pleasantly surprised to not only find the song I had just heard, but the entire LP is available as a free download, courtesy of the good people at dublab!

Here’s what Mr. Tamborello had to say about the LP:
” I make music as Dntel, my last few releases have come out on Sub Pop. I’ve loved Enya since I was a teenager and I just finished this mini-album of remixes I did this past fall after a marathon revisiting of her records. I’m really proud of it, but unfortunately I couldn’t figure out a way to give it a legitimate release. I felt like if I tried to get it to her through any of the usual channels it would probably get shut down before it even made it to her ears. Hopefully nobody will mind it floating around, it was made with love and no money will be made off of it. I hope you enjoy it!!”

The Friendly Giant is a 17 year old mashup artist from Los Angeles.  His latest mashup, Hands Up High, combines the catchy lyrics of Waka Flocka Fame ft. Wale and Roscoe Dash’s No Hands with the “make you want to move and dance” beats of Taio Cruz ft. Travie McCoy’s Higher.

I was traveling last week and ended up listening to this track quite a bit.  It was a great addition to my “keep me from falling asleep at the wheel” driving mix and couldn’t help from dancing in my seat as I drove through the middle of nowhere.  Give the track a listen below and I dare you to try and stay still.

Cameron McGill & What Army//Is a Beast

Cameron McGill & What Army are set to release their fifth full-length studio album, Is a Beast, next month (out 4/12, pre-order here).

The new album finds the band in exciting new territory after two years of solid touring and their most expiremental lineup to date: Daniel McMahon (guitar), Rodrigo Palma (bass), and Darren Garvey (drums).  The album was recorded this past winter in Milwaukee, WI, and follows their Deserters EP (2010), Daytrotter session (2010), Sad Ambassador 7” single (2010), Two Hits and A Miss EP (2009), Warm Songs For Cold Shoulders (2009), Hold on Beauty (2008), Street Ballads & Murderesques (2006), and Stories of The Knife and The Back (2004).  Needless to say, Mr. McGill and company have been quite busy.

It’s easy to compare the band’s sound to Margot & the Nuclear So and So’s (2009 saw McGill joining the band Margot & the Nuclear So and So’s, for which he plays keyboard), but there’s also a hint of Archer Avenue, The Shins, The Silent Years, Spoon, and Wilco.  But even though the similarities exist, Cameron McGill & What Army bring more than enough of there own sound to the table.

I was lucky enough to get an advanced preview of Is a Beast and i’ve really enjoyed listening to it over the past couple of weeks.  The combination of indie-folk and catchy pop creates quite an infectious record.  With multiple listens down, I would say I Don’t Believe In Magic (But All My Friends Just Disappeared) is my favorite track, but I also really enjoy The Road To Hell Is Paved With Adverbs, Dublin Fights Songs, and Michelangelo’s Blue Period.

[watch] Oh Land//Son Of A Gun

Danish singer Oh Land is just about to drop her latest (self titled, out March 15th) and the good people at Hype Machine have the entire album available to stream…needless to say, I’ve kinda obsessed with Oh Land right now and just stumbled upon her video for Son Of A Gun.

Over 4 million people have viewed this video on YouTube…so there’s a good chance you’ve already seen it, but apparently I live under a rock and I just watched it for the first time today.  If you also live under a rock and haven’t watched this video, check it out below.  And even you don’t like the video, it’s really hard not to enjoy the song.
