[hot off the press] Sleigh Bells//Comeback Kid

Over the weekend, Sleigh Bells dropped the first official single from their soon-to-be-released LP, Reign of Terror.  Though I still enjoy “Born to Lose” a bit more, the new single, “Comeback Kid”, is yet another impressive track and keeps me hopeful that Sleigh Bells sophomore outing will live up to my high expectations.

Reign of Terror is out Feb. 21st and you can catch Sleigh Bells on tour, starting Feb. 3rd.

[on repeat] Kathryn Calder

I love, love, love The New Pornographers, but it wasn’t until today that I discovered the solo recordings of keyboardist/vocalist, Kathryn Calder. (thank you dinner party download!)

Calder released her first album back in 2010.  A deeply personal record, Are you my Mother? was largely born through two years of Kathryn caring for her terminally ill mother.  As depressing as that sounds, don’t think of the record as a eulogy.  Rather, think of it as a “statement that life is a mixed bag, and that without losing things you would never know to cherish them.”

This last October, Calder released Bright and Vivid.  A solid follow-up, the record is filled with harmonic vocals and some surprisingly elaborate production.  Lead single, “Who Are You?”, is one heck of a good track and Calder’s “uniquely angelic voice” really shine.  If you haven’t already, do yourself a favor and familiarize yourself with Kathryn.

[watch] Two Against One

Noted as one of several forthcoming cinematic offerings from Danger Mouse and Daniele Luppi’s Rome project, which will comprise a theatrical live-action project, the heralded collaborative single with Jack White now gets the visual treatment. The video for “Two Against One” welcomes an animated cut, actually done rather well, might we add. Expect to see more aesthetic offerings from the album in the near future. The video is part of an interactive project by acclaimed music video director Chris Milk and animator/co-director Anthony Francisco Schepperd.  Check the link for more. Enjoy
