[on repeat] Oh Land//Bloodbuzz Ohio

Danish singer-songwriter Oh Land (aka Nanna Øland Fabricius) recently dropped quite the impressive cover of The National’s “Bloodbuzz Ohio”.  Just as Mr Little Jeans was able to take Arcade Fire’s “The Suburbs” and make it her own, Oh Land does just that.  The original’s guitar has been replaced with light synths, and along with some subtle electric beats and Nanna’s dreamy vocals, a solid cover is born.  In fact, if the original wasn’t already such a favorite of mine, I could see myself believing this to be it.  I’m in love with this track right now and it’s most definitely a keeper (I wouldn’t be surprised if it turned up on this year’s 31 Days of Good).

If you have yet to check out Oh Land’s self-titled LP, which was released earlier this year, or her debut LP Fauna, what exactly are you waiting for?!

[on repeat] fun.//We Are Young (feat. Janelle Monáe)

I heard the tail end of this track on KCRW’s Morning Becomes Eclectic the other day and pretty much forgot about it…that is until I rediscovered it on Elbows earlier today and the rest is history.

fun. is an indie pop trio based in NY that was formed by Nate Ruess (you may remember him from The Format).  Now I have to admit, this is one of those bands that’s been on my radar for awhile now, but i’ve never really given them a good, honest listen.  But this track has me excited for what’s to come, and thanks to spotify, i’ve been catching up on what i’ve been missing.

The track in question is “We Are Young,”  (stream it/watch it below, then download it on iTunes) the latest from the trio and first single off their yet-to-be-titled sophomore album, and just happens to feature some vocals from the one and only Janelle Monáe.  Rumor has it the new LP will be released early 2012, so in the meantime, familiarize yourself ournameisfun.com and be sure to take note of their tour dates — they’ll be hitting the road tomorrow (10/1), and while it’s mostly a East Coast/Midwest tour, they will be playing the Troubadour on Nov. 14th.

[on repeat] The White Panda//Midnight Life

Mashup maestros The White Panda never cease to amaze me.  Their most recent offering, “Midnight Life”, combines two unlikely artists — one of my favorites, M83, and one of my not-so -favorites, Kanye West.  The result is a high-energy track that’s sure to put some extra pep in your step and I for one will have it on constant repeat this weekend.

Head on over to thewhitepanda.com, where you can stream and download “Midnight Life” for free (along with pretty much every other track they’ve put out).

[on repeat] Girls//Honey Bunny

Girls are set to release of their latest LP, Father, Son, Holy Ghost, next week.  In the meantime, enjoy the leadoff track, Honey Bunny.

I absolutely love this track!  It’s a bit more upbeat than the first single, Vomit, and as Christopher Owen recently described to NPR’s All Songs Considered, “this one has a bit of swagger to it…the energy and optimism and determination in it is quite appealing…”.  I also call my wife “honey bunny”, so the title alone makes me love this song.

Girls their currently on tour and Father, Son, Holy Ghost is out Sep 13th on True Panther Sounds.  You can also stream the entire LP over that The Hype Machine.

[on repeat] Future Islands//Balance

Just came across this brand new track (thank you Elbows) from Future Islands and the boys from Baltimore have done it once again.

I was already excited for the upcoming release of the band’s third album, On The Water, after hearing the lead single Before The Bridge.  This latest track, Balance, is equally as nice on the ears (if not nicer).

On The Water is set for release Oct. 11th via ThrillJockey.  In the meantime, enjoy the new track below and you LA peeps can catch ’em at this years FYF Fest on Sep. 3rd.
