[on repeat] fun.//We Are Young (feat. Janelle Monáe)

I heard the tail end of this track on KCRW’s Morning Becomes Eclectic the other day and pretty much forgot about it…that is until I rediscovered it on Elbows earlier today and the rest is history.

fun. is an indie pop trio based in NY that was formed by Nate Ruess (you may remember him from The Format).  Now I have to admit, this is one of those bands that’s been on my radar for awhile now, but i’ve never really given them a good, honest listen.  But this track has me excited for what’s to come, and thanks to spotify, i’ve been catching up on what i’ve been missing.

The track in question is “We Are Young,”  (stream it/watch it below, then download it on iTunes) the latest from the trio and first single off their yet-to-be-titled sophomore album, and just happens to feature some vocals from the one and only Janelle Monáe.  Rumor has it the new LP will be released early 2012, so in the meantime, familiarize yourself ournameisfun.com and be sure to take note of their tour dates — they’ll be hitting the road tomorrow (10/1), and while it’s mostly a East Coast/Midwest tour, they will be playing the Troubadour on Nov. 14th.

[hot off the press] Big Black Delta//BBDLP1

As a successor to the free debut EP BBDEP1Los Angeles experimental pop project Big Black Delta’s debut LP BBDLP1 is out today on Coming Home Records.

Citing “being out of tune” as a muse, the songs on the album are the spawn of multi-instrumentalist Jonathan Bate’s imagination and inspired musical exploration. It was recorded entirely on a laptop given to him by Alessandro Cortini (Nine Inch Nails, SONOIO) in and all over Los Angeles, from assorted apartments and friends’ houses to backyards across the city, often at all hours of the night. Guests on the album include Cortini, who played his buchla on “The Zebrah,” as well as Morgan Kibby (M83, White Sea) whose vocals are featured on “Dreary Moon.”

Tonight will mark the last night of Big Back Delta’s residency at The Satellite in Los Angeles, CA. As a celebration of the album release, Big Black Delta will be selling signed limited-edition colored vinyl, brand new shirts, posters, and decals. Bates will be  performing with live vocals, dancing, an orchestrated light show, and dueling female drummers Mahsa Zargaran and Amy Wood, as depicted in the brand new video for “Betamax” included above.

I’ll be at the show tonight, so come along and say hi.  Either way, enjoy the track “Capsize” below, as well as the brand video for “Betamax”.

[watch] Fanfarlo//Replicate

A couple of weeks ago, Fanfarlo released the video for their brand new track, “Replicate” (BIG thanks to All Songs Considered for bringing this to my attention).  I really dig this track and can’t wait to hear more.  Enjoy the video below, along with a message from the band, and then head on over to fanfarlo.com for more (hint: if you sign up for the mailing list, you can download “Replicate” for free).

Dear all,

Almost exactly a year ago we stopped touring and sat down to write a new record. Earlier this year we went to a remote slate quarrying town in Northern Wales to record it and now we finally have the finished result in our hands.

There is so much we want to show you! It was hard to decide where to start, but we decided to start at the beginning. So here is the first song from our new album — it’s called ‘Replicate’. Over the summer there were so many visual ideas we wanted to incorporate in presenting this music to you, both on your screens and live, coming to play in your city. The first puzzle piece is the video above we made in collaboration with Alex Southam.

But that’s not all. We also have a small number of shows scheduled which we are terribly excited about. Simply cannot wait to play you all the new music. And of course, coming to the shows is the only way of hearing it.

Here are the dates:

Sept 30 London, Hoxton Hall – tickets
Oct 25 Boston, Brighton Music Hall
Oct 27 New York, Mercury Lounge – tickets
Oct 29 Washington DC, Red Palace
Oct 30 Brooklyn, Glasslands – tickets
Nov 01 Philadelphia, Johnny Brendas
Nov 13 Tenerife, Auditorium – tickets
Nob 15 Madrid, Heineken Music Selector – tickets
Nov 16 Barcelona, Bikini – tickets
Nov 18 Toledo, Heineken Music Selector – Círculo de Arte – tickets
Nov 19 Cadiz, Heineken Music Selector – Sala Imagina – tickets

See you there!

Love,
F

[anticipation] Childish Gambino//Camp

Mr. Donald Glover, aka Childish Gambino, is gearing up for the release of his latest LP, Camp, and just yesterday, he dropped the LP’s leadoff track, Bonfire.  [the track is on iTunes today, buy it here]

If you’ve been following this hear blog since it’s humble beginnings, you already know how big of a Childish Gambino fan I am.  Bonfire is yet another fantastic offering and I can’t wait to hear more.  Rumor has it that Camp will be released November 15th, but this has yet to be confirmed.  In the meantime, head on over to iamdonald.com and listen to Bonfire and be sure to check out the upcoming tour dates below.
