[new music roundup] 11.29.11

Between my 4 year wedding anniversary, the Thanksgiving holiday, prepping this year’s (31) Days of Good, and a fantasy football playoff-push,  I haven’t had much time to work on this week’s new music roundup.  Honestly though, I haven’t come across many interesting brand new releases.  But like I said earlier, I haven’t really put in a proper search and my email is way backed up.  However, there are a handful of interesting reissues, remasters, compilations, etc. being released this week.  So without further ado, a few of my favorite new releases this week…

Adele//Live At the Royal Albert Hall

Gorillaz//The Singles Collection: 2001 – 2011

Various Artists//The Inbetweeners: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (features exclusive new music by Mike Skinner aka The Streets).

[watch] Life’s a Happy Song

Zachary Scott for The New York Times

The marketing for The Muppets has been fantastic and this latest bit is one of the best ones yet.

In the video below, Bret McKenzie (Flight of the Conchords) and Kermit the Frog (The Muppets) perform the film’s opening song — “Life’s a Happy Song”.  (Fun fact: McKenzie served as the film’s music supervisor and also wrote the film’s songs)

The Muppets hit theaters this Wednesday (11/23) and the soundtrack is out now (iTunes).

[on repeat] Y LUV//Earthquakes

As a follow up to their recent EP, How Chill Can You Let Go, LA indie quartet Y LUV are back with their latest offering, “Earthquakes”.

The track premiered last week on the blog Blah Blah Blah Sciencebut you can now grab it here as well…and unless you don’t like good old fashioned indie-pop, combined with chilling harmonies, explosive beats, and aggressive guitar riffs, there’s really no good reason why this song isn’t already on your iPod.

“Earthquakes” is the first of two brand new singles, so stay tuned for more!

[watch] Michael B. Goode

Marty McFly lives!

Michael J. Fox flashed his guitar skills on Chuck Berry’s “Johnny B. Goode” a la the “Back To The Future” finale a la the “Enchantment Under the Sea” dance at his annual Parkinson’s disease benefit.  Fun fact: The “Enchantment Under the Sea” dance, coincidentally, took place on the same night as the fundraiser, 56 years earlier.

Enjoy.

and if you haven’t seen “Back To The Future” (what’s wrong with you?), here’s the original performance
