(31) Days of Good: 12.12.12

This entire record is great, it’s hard to single out just one track especially with guest appearances ranging from T.I. and Theophilus London to Little Dragon and Phantogram.  “Lines” features the Southern influenced Rocky and Phantogram on the hook.  This is the second solo record from Big Boi and is a must have for Hip-Hop fans…but can we please get another Outkast record?

M.I.A. delivers yet again with a playfulness that only she can pull off.  This was one of my favorite tracks, beats, and videos of the year — maybe even the best video of the year, in my opinion.  M.I.A. is currently putting the final touches on her upcoming album Matangi (due out March 2013).

“Goldie” will have to do for now, because A$AP’s record, Long.Live.A$AP, keeps getting pushed back and is now set to be released Jan 15th, 2013.  The Harlem MC has established himself in the rap scene without a major label release.  The self proclaimed “pretty motherf**cker” has become one of the most recognizable faces in Hip-Hop with his keen eye for fashion and swagger.  More from A$AP to come soon.

Pac Div is one of the most underrated rap groups around.  I can’t figure out why they haven’t blown up.  They have consistently released mixtapes and albums that critics and Hip-Hop heads seem to love but they have yet to receive the accolades they deserve.  “Black Acura” is off of their latest album GMB that features the likes of Mac Miller and Kendrick Lamar.

(31) Days of Good: 12.5.12

The G.O.O.D. Music crew had a huge year with the release of Cruel Summer.  This record top to bottom has some of the best production in hip hop along with some of hip hops biggest names.  “Mercy” is the standout track in my opinion, especially the verses from Pusha T and 2 Chainz.  Pusha T has emerged as the stand out lyricist of the entire crew, combining clever quips with street credibility.

The super hyped Odd Future crew are some of the most blogged about people in hip hop.  Earl Sweatshirt is actually deserving of the hype.  Drawing comparisons to early Nas, Earl has a grim and visceral tone to his music.  The 18 year old MC has definitely established himself as one of the elite up and coming rappers in the rap game.  And when you have a chance, head on over to Stereogum and watch the music video that dropped yesterday.

Just add the stats of this track and I’m sold: Kendrick Lamar + Drake + a Janet Jackson sample. There are a lot of great cuts from Kendrick Lamar’s major label debut and follow up to his majorly successful mix tape Section.80, but this might be my favorite.

[watch] Jay-Z & Kanye West//No Church In The Wild

While conquering international stages during the European leg of their highly successful Watch The Thronetour, Jay-Z and Kanye West unveil their latest visual for “No Church In The Wild.” Helmed by famed director Romain Gavras (Director of my favorite video of the year: Bad Girls by M.I.A.) and featuring Frank Ocean, the visual was filmed in the streets of Prague last month and serves as the third visual impression off the duo’s Grammy award-winning album Watch the Throne following “Otis” and “Ni**as in Paris.” Segments of the video have already been shared during concerts in the UK, but now the full version has emerged in its full glory. via

[watch] “Breathe Easy Tonight”

This is a short film I put together for a documentary class at Chico State featuring three local bands: The Make, Casing the Promiseland, and Surrogate. I plan on making a longer version so stay tuned. For more information on the bands click below

[watch] Childish Gambino // Heartbeat

Here is the latest visual from Childish Gambino aka Donald Glover from NBC’s now defunct show  Community. Gambino had one of our favorite records this last year and at least two track from Camp were featured on (31) Days of Good. Gambino is touring right now and I’m hoping to see him in Sac, be on the look out. Enjoy
