(31) Days of Good: 12.5.13

Flight-Facilities-Stand-Still

“Flight Facilities have dipped down from the heavens to gently drop this smokey gem of funkified gold. Mickey Green’s vocals polish this stone cold groover to perfection as the song twists and winds around FF’s slowly building beats.” via The Burning Ear

ebony_bones_behold_pale_horse

“London’s own Ebony Bones, born Ebony Thomas, just uploaded the new single ‘I See I Say’ from her upcoming two-part album Behold, a Pale Horse, and it punched me in my face. From the arresting titular vocal loop that drives the song from start to finish to the swelling orchestral strings that add some sinister sonic depth, this genre-eluding electronic ballad pulses with ominous energy.” via Indie Shuffle

RAC-Dont-Talk-To-EP-iTunes

“RAC is pretty much unstoppable at this point. He recruited Bloc Party vocalist Kele and MNDR (the voice on Tokimonsta’s excellent ‘Go With It’) for ‘Let Go’. This song has been on repeat for a week now. I can’t get enough of it.” via Rachel Reynolds, KCRW Music Blog

CMJ Music Marathon 2012

Now until Oct 20th, hundreds of bands and music fans will take over New York City for the annual CMJ Music Marathon.  While CMJ may lack the “big names” you find at Coachella and Lollapalooza, it totally makes up for it with shear volume.  There are soooo many bands and artists playing, it’s actually a bit nerve wrecking, trying to decide which acts to see.  But what really makes CMJ rad, is the music discovery aspect.  This is where you’ll see the next “big name” and it will be in a random Manhattan basement with 10 other lucky people.  Personally, this is the music festival I want to attend most.  One of these days my dream will become a reality, but until then I am happy writing about it.  And hopefully helping this year’s attendees deal with the daunting task of combing through all the music they have at their fingertips.  So if you’re having a tough time deciding who to see this week, consider these artists/bands.  And last but not least, have fun discovering your new favorite band.

CMJ 2012

CMJ Music Marathon is set to take over New York City this year, from Oct. 16 – 20.  This is one of my bucket list festivals and though i’ve never been, I highly recommend it.  CMJ may lack the “big names” you find at Coachella and Lollapalooza, but totally makes up for it with shear volume.

With that said, the initial music lineup was recently announced and it includes some of my favorites, including Exitmusic, GenerationalsGeographerGZAThe LuyasMNDRThe Mountain GoatsTalib Kweli, and The Walkmen.  Check out the complete list below and be sure to check in often with CMJ for more updates.

[hot off the press] MNDR Remixes

A couple of brand new MNDR remixes just dropped and they’re both available as free downloads!

The first one is an excellent remix of Cut Me Out by renowned techno producer, Hervé.  Grab the remix here and check out the original track below.

MNDR has also been working on a collection of 4-Track remixes all recorded on 4 tracks straight to analog tape.  You can download the first remix, Foster The People’s Pumped Up Kicks (MNDR 4-Track Remix), on RCRDLBL.  More 4-Track remixes are on their way, so stay tuned.
