I’ve already featured a handful of talented ladies throughout 31days2013, but I wanted to dedicate today’s feature to more of the year’s most impressive ladies in music. But please keep in mind, the following musicians are not a fair representation. My picks don’t even scratch the surface of all the talent out there. Now with that behind us, please enjoy.
These are simply in alphabetical order. It’s hard enough to rank my top 10, i don’t want to do it more than once a year. Enjoy all of these on Spotify, which i’ll continue to update throughout the rest of 2013. And with some highly anticipated releases still on the horizon, including new albums from Porcelain Raft, Smith Westerns, and Elton John, i’m sure this list will evolve.
But enough babbling, enjoy my favorite albums of 2013 (so far) and please check back in December to see which (if any) make the cut for my top 10 of the year.
A few of my favorite new releases this week, including the latest from Camera Obscura, Eleanor Friedberger, Quadron, and Rogue Wave. As always, be sure to visit Largehearted Boy for more new music.
I’ve restrained myself until now, but it’s Christmas Eve and I can’t hold out any longer. So without further ado, some holiday goodness for this most wonderful time of the year. Happy Holidays everyone! Have fun, be merry, stay safe.

Now until Oct 20th, hundreds of bands and music fans will take over New York City for the annual CMJ Music Marathon. While CMJ may lack the “big names” you find at Coachella and Lollapalooza, it totally makes up for it with shear volume. There are soooo many bands and artists playing, it’s actually a bit nerve wrecking, trying to decide which acts to see. But what really makes CMJ rad, is the music discovery aspect. This is where you’ll see the next “big name” and it will be in a random Manhattan basement with 10 other lucky people. Personally, this is the music festival I want to attend most. One of these days my dream will become a reality, but until then I am happy writing about it. And hopefully helping this year’s attendees deal with the daunting task of combing through all the music they have at their fingertips. So if you’re having a tough time deciding who to see this week, consider these artists/bands. And last but not least, have fun discovering your new favorite band.
