(31) Days of Good//12.31.16

Happy New Year Party People.

2016 – the music was great, but you were brutal. 2017 – can’t wait to see what you’ve got in store for us. Try not to be as deadly.

Chet Faker has become one of my favorite producers with his brand of downtempo electronic music, and his work with Marcus Marr on the Work EP was on repeat since it was released. [via BFAY]

.Paak released the best Summer album of 2016…in January. Call it whatever you want – hip hop, neo-soul, RnB, millennial jazz, and so on. It’s all of these sounds and more. It’s powerful, it’s brilliant, it’s visionary, and it sounds fantastic.

♩ Anderson .Paak – The Season | Carry Me [from Malibu]

The group’s first new release since 2012. Good Lord. This is fantastic. It may or may not be about current(?)/former(?) bandmate Amber Coffman, but it’s new Dirty Projectors and it’s fantastic. I can’t wait to hear more.

Yet another indie pop gem from a group that is finally getting the long overdue praise they deserve.

One of my favorite discoveries of the year, this record is great start to finish with a slurry if features, with one of the standouts being a guest appearance from 90s R&B crooner Craig David.

♩ KAYTRANADA – GOT IT GOOD (ft. Craig David) [from 99.9%]

Only Kanye could pull off such an erratic release of a record, and then change it however many times…I think there were at least 5 versions of The Life of Pablo. Kanye might have lost his mind by the end of the year, but he did leave us with a few great tracks, Wolves being one of my favorites.

♩ Kanye West – Wolves [from The Life Of Pablo]

Every fan of 90s era hip-hop was salivating for this one once it was announced. In the same year we lost Phife Dawg, we got a long awaited release from a crew I didn’t think would ever make music again.

♩ A Tribe Called Quest – Whateva Will Be [from We’ve got it from Here… Thank You 4 Your service]
