2 discoveries this week, best coast & the veils. enjoy!

while i may never understand why people long for los angeles, i still dig bethany cosentino’s story and inspiration. while our heroine attended college in ny, she would spend her days longing for the life she left behind in sunny la. this longing created best coast. beach blanket lo-fi pop songs about “summer and the sun and the ocean and being a lazy creep”.

catch best coast at this years SXSW and for you LA peeps, she’ll be making an in-store performance at bloomingdales beverly center on march 13th

the veils are an indie/alt rock band based in london that have been working hard since 2001 and it definitely shows with their most recent release, sun gangs (released april 6th, 2009). plenty of websites featured sun gangs in their top 20 albums of 2009 and i probably would have to had i discovered them earlier.

they’re set to play this years SXSW on march 17th, but if you live in the LA area, you have two chances to catch a show. on march 12th they’ll be playing at the troubadour with happy hollows and on march 16th they’ll be playing at the house of blues of anaheim (downtown disney) with black rebel motorcycle club.
